    Admissions Requirements

Graduate certificates are 11–13-credit programs that allow students to gain advanced knowledge in a subject area. They are perfect for students who want to switch career paths, or bolster applications to medical, dental, veterinary and other professional schools.

Graduate certificates also offer an admissions pathway for those who do not meet the admissions requirements for the M.S. program. After successfully completing several courses with a grade of "B" or higher, students can transfer their credits in full to the Master of Science program.

We offer three specializations for graduate certificates:

    Microbiome and Health (12 credits)

    Medical Microbiology (11 credits)

    Environmental Science (13 credits)

    Clinical Laboratory Microbiologist (18 credits)

    Graduate Certificate Admissions Requirements

Master of Science (M.S.) degrees are 30-credit programs that provide the knowledge and credentials to take your career to the next level. Professionals with an M.S. degree earn on average 21% more than those with only a bachelor's degree.

For those who complete the program, their degree will read, "Master of Science in Microbiology in Cell Science." Underneath, it will specify the concentration, reading either, "Concentration in Medical Microbiology and Biochemistry" or "Concentration in Microbiome in Health and Disease." Degrees will not specify that the coursework was online.

Non-degree courses allow students to enroll in courses without enrolling in a program of study (such as a graduate certificate or master of science program). This is a great option for those who want to learn a new subject, dip their toes back into school, or need to raise their GPA.
